Darkness Takeover: Aftermath is a popular mod for the rhythm game Friday Night Funkin' (FNF). It's known for its unique and unsettling atmosphere, inspired by the "Pibby" glitch art style and lore.

Story

The mod picks up after the events of the original Darkness Takeover mod, where Boyfriend and Girlfriend narrowly escaped being consumed by the encroaching glitch entity. However, their victory was short-lived, as they discovered the glitch had spread further, corrupting more characters and locations.

Boyfriend and Girlfriend must once again rap-battle their way through increasingly distorted versions of familiar faces, including Daddy Dearest, Mommy Mearest, Pico, and even Skid and Pump. Each character's appearance and music have been warped by the glitch, creating a truly nightmarish experience.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Darkness Takeover: Aftermath remains largely faithful to the original FNF formula. Players must press arrow keys in time with the music to match the notes and progress through the song. However, the mod introduces some new mechanics, such as:

  • Glitched notes: These notes have a distorted appearance and require slightly different timing to hit correctly.
  • Static bars: These sections of the screen temporarily obscure the notes, making it more challenging to see what's coming.
  • Corrupted vocals: The characters' voices are often distorted and glitched, adding to the unsettling atmosphere.

Aftermath also features several new songs, each with its own unique glitch-inspired aesthetic and challenging rhythm.

Impact

Darkness Takeover: Aftermath has been praised for its creative use of the Pibby glitch art style, its challenging gameplay, and its overall creepy atmosphere. It has become a popular choice among FNF modders and players who enjoy a good scare.
